And now for Week 8...
I come in low over a huge river that shines in the sunlight; most fittingly, due to the name of the country. I have landed in a city – an autonomous city, no less. I seem to have come to rest beside a football stadium which is hardly surprising seeing as how there are more professional football teams here than in any other city in the world – or so I am reliably informed. This is a monumental stadium and home to a club named after the river – though, to my anglicised eyes, they seem to have the name of a fish on their club’s crest. I walk along wide, tree-lined streets that must have delighted a young food technician called Jorge before he rose to higher things many miles away. A series of parks, one of them decidedly oriental, leads me past a planetarium dedicated to a great astronomer and onwards, to the final resting place of many presidents, politicians, writers and scientists. And a former actress who died at the tender age of 33. The sun is setting as I approach a busy roundabout. Sunset? Roundabout? Reminds of a song and that I need to get from whence I came. Oh – and before I forget – Happy Christmas!
